This one's for all the marbles in the NFC West.

The St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks will meet on Sunday in what functions as a qualifying game to play on Wild Card Weekend. St. Louis, 7-8, lead the NFC West while the Seahawks, 6-9, currently sit second.

However if Seattle win on Sunday then both teams would be 7-9 and the Seahawks would claim the NFC West by virtue of the tiebreaking procedure (better divisional record).

Whereas playoff scenarios in week 17 are often complicated, in the case of the NFC West things are pretty straight forward: win and you're in as the 4 seed.

The Seahawks are the home team and that does bode well for their chances this weekend. At home Seattle, despite being a 6-9 team overall, have a 4-3 record and the Rams are just 2-5 on the road. Those two trends do imply a Seattle win to close out the season and a spot in the NFC playoffs.

However another trend worth looking at is how the two teams have done lately. Seattle are just 1-4 in their last 5 games while the Rams have been respectable at 3-2 during the same span.

These two clubs are not exactly teams with killer instincts but one of them will claim a playoff spot. When they met for the first time this season the Rams pulled off a week 4 win in St. Louis 20-3 but unless they can solve their road woes then the Seahawks will be heading toward a match-up against a Wild Card team next weekend.

Game time between Seattle and St. Louis is at 8:20pm ET on Sunday and it will conclude the 2010/11 NFL regular season.
