Pep staying for another season
FC Barcelona announced on their official website today that the club reached an agreement with manager Josep Guardiola that sees him agreeing to remain as manager of the club for another season. Guardiola will be signing the new contract with the club for another season in the upcoming days with the contract now ending on June 30th, 2012. FC Barcelona have won eight titles since Guardiola was promoted from coaching Barça B for the 2008-2009 season.
Guardiola returned to the club following the end of his playing days as the Barça B manager during the 2007-2008 season that saw him get his side promoted to the third tier. He then replaced Frank Rijkaard as the manager of the first team for the 2008-2009 season and the rest is history.
He helped guide Barcelona to 8 titles, among them being the first Spanish club to ever win the treble and his list of success includes back-to-back leagues titles, the Champions League and the elusive FIFA Club World Cup that had never been won before. This year’s side also set a new Spanish league record of 16 consecutive league games victories. Overall, Guardiola’s two and half years helm at the club, has seen him win 117 games, draw 28 games and suffer only 14 defeats.
